What is the Autel MaxilM IM508 Key Programmer?
While still a critical piece of equipment for any locksmith, a key programmer is distinctly different from a key cutter. This device reprograms key fob transponders. It’s compatible with most makes and models of vehicles and key fobs (you may need to pay for a subscription service).
If you own a newer vehicle, the chances are good that you unlock and start your car simply by holding the key fob in proximity. That’s because the fob sends a digital signal to the vehicle that causes much the same mechanical action as turning a key in the ignition used to do.
The Autel MaxilM IM508 can detect that signal and program a new key fob to replace the old one. You can also use it to reset or program the car's ECU or MCU as well as read, generate, and learn keys. It performs these (and other) tasks quickly and easily. It can also perform maintenance functions, such as resetting or evaluating service warnings that are part of a vehicle's immobilization system. All old keys can be removed, and even if they're lost, you can reset the immobilizing mechanism and the customer's car will still be secure.Â
You can reset keys, generate new keys, or relearn them from anywhere with Autel's MaxilM IM508 remote key programmer with built-in Wi-Fi.Â
It has two modes: smart mode, for primary technicians, and expert mode, for skilled technicians. That way, if you or your employees need more support, they can have it, but if they prefer to work quickly on their own knowledge, they have that option as well.
Feedback on the Autel MaxilM IM508 from Locksmiths
Most locksmiths generally have good experiences with this key programmer. One of the things that people especially like is the excellent customer service that Autel provides. They appreciate the machine's reliability, ease of use, and accurate diagnostics. It’s also described as a good value for the money.Â
There are some downsides, however. Seemingly randomly, this tool won’t work with all makes and models of cars. While that’s expected as some programmers are made for specific makes, with the MaxilM IM508 you may not realize it happens to you.Â
