How to clear cache, cookies, and history on a web browser

Dealing with history, cookies, and cache

To avoid or fix speed issues, you should routinely clear the cache, cookies, and history in your web browser.

Mobile Browsers

Android

1. Go to Settings > Apps.
2. Tap the More (three dots) menu in the top right corner.
3. Select Show System Apps.
4. Scroll down and tap Chrome.
5. Tap Storage & Cache.
6. Tap Clear cache and Clear storage.

Chrome for Android

1. Open Chrome.
2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
3. Select Settings > Privacy.
4. Tap Clear browsing data.
5. Select the time range for which you want to clear your cache and cookies. To clear everything, select `All time`.
6. Check the boxes next to `Cookies and site data` and `Cached images and files`.
7. Tap Clear data.

Safari (Apple iOS)

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Scroll down and tap Safari.
3. Scroll down and tap Clear History and Website Data.
4. Tap Clear History and Data to confirm
5. Quit the Safari App and Re-Open it

Chrome for iOS

1. Open the Chrome Menu inside the Chrome App.
2. In the browser bar, enter: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
3. Choose the period of time you would like to clear. To clear your entire cache, select From the Beginning of Time
4. Select the following from the drop down menu
• Browsing History
• Cookies and other site and plug-in data
• Cached images and files
5. Click on Clear Browsing Data
6. Quit the Chrome App and Re-Open it

Desktop Browsers

Chrome

1. Enter the following into your browser search bar: chrome://settings/clearBrowserData
2. Choose the period of time you would like to clear. To clear your entire cache, select From the Beginning of Time
3. Select the following from the drop down menu
• Browsing History
• Cookies and other site and plug-in data
• Cached images and files
4. Click on Clear Browsing Data
5. Quit the Chrome App and Re-Open it

Firefox

1. From the History menu, select Clear Recent History
• If you cannot see the menu bar, press Alt to make it visible
2. To clear all cache, choose Everything from the Time range to clear.
3. Select all items or just Browsing & Download History, Cookies, and Cache to minimally clear your entire cache. Click the down arrow next to "Details" to choose which parts of the history to clear.
4. Click Clear Now
5. Exit the Browser and Re-Open it

Internet Explorer 11 or higher

1. From the History menu, select Clear Recent History
• If you cannot see the menu bar, press Alt to make it visible
2. Using the Gear Icon, choose Tools > Safety > Clear your browsing history.
• If you cannot see the menu bar, press Alt to make it visible
3. Deselect Preserve Favorites website data, and select:
• Temporary Internet files and website files
• Cookies and website data
• History
4. Click Delete
5. Exit the Browser and Re-Open it

Safari 8 or higher

1. From the Safari menu, select Clear History and Website Data
2. Select the desired Time Range and click Clear History
3. Exit the Browser and Re-Open it
